Julian Dutton has been performing throughout Guelph and Ontario with various acts over the past 10 years. Julian first took an interest in the drums at the age of 12. Over the following summer, he attended one of Jamschool’s first Summer Rock Camps, and began to develop a strong interest in playing with bands and performing on stage. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled as a drum student at Jamschool, studying under John Vella and Spencer Arn. Throughout high school, Julian continued to pursue his love of playing in bands, exploring various musical styles ranging from indie rock to thrash metal. After graduating, he joined Guelph’s Unbowed, a metal band with more established roots in the Southern Ontario metal scene. With Unbowed, Julian performed throughout Ontario and Quebec, including several shows in Toronto, London, Ottawa, Quebec City, and Montreal. Interested in furthering his education, he moved to London, England in 2018, where he completed a diploma program in Music Production and Sound Engineering at Point Blank Music School.
Julian is eager to teach at Jamschool and pass on knowledge to the next generation of drummers: “Jamschool was integral in developing my love for drums, bands, and performing. Taking lessons at Jamschool not only provided me with knowledge of drums, but also opportunities to play in bands and perform on stage at various events. This inspired me, and instilled a sense of confidence within me. I hope to engage students in a similar way!”
